Welcome to the Walk the Pod newsletter. Thank you for visiting.
I want to figure out how to be in the world - how to be happy here. In my daily podcast and this weekly newsletter, I explore ideas about philosophy, walking and mental health.
By signing up, you’ll receive a new edition of my newsletter every Thursday morning. Thank you (in advance) for having me in your inbox.
I include lots of quotes from wiser heads than mine, like this one by James Baldwin from a 1961 radio interview:
“Art has to be a kind of confession. . . . The effort, it seems to me, is: If you can examine and face your life, you can discover the terms with which you are connected to other lives, and they can discover, too, the terms with which they are connected to other people.
This has happened to every one of us, I’m sure. You read something which you thought only happened to you, and you discovered it happened 100 years ago to Dostoevsky. This is a very great liberation for the suffering, struggling person, who always thinks he is alone. That’s why art is important.” - James Baldwin
I read philosophy and literature to connect with people across time as well as space. I love that Marcus Aurelius was grappling with the same hard questions in AD 161 as I am, 2,000 years later. And his insights can help me with my problems. I read to collect these insights from curious people across time, and bring them to you, curious people today.
